Goh’s constant travels to immerse himself in transnational networks and social structures are tendencies of cosmopolitanism that thrive on the movement of artists and exchanges of ideas. Focusing on his collage as a medium of representing reality, Goh’s use of different materials, symbols and forms as elements in tension and dialogue with each other disrupt the depiction of reality through painting, rendering art as illusion by challenging the conventions of pictorial form. Collage as a way of introducing different media, styles and motifs that can be interpreted in multiple contexts becomes a way for Goh to imagine alternative realities shaped by his cosmopolitan experience.
